This is a very small 1/3 quart pot. Its holds one cup of water to the brim. It is used for sauces or melting butter, etc. Mostly it looks pretty. Very costly for such a limited use.

The properties of cast iron make it the best little fondue pot and mini sauce/gravy boat. Just heat up cream and chocolate to make the ganache and the pot keeps it warm for a long time without a flame. That way you can carry it around the house. Or use on a stand and flame like a regular mini fondue pot. The cast iron distributes the heat evenly and helps prevent scorched chocolate/sauce.

Great for a romantic evening or when you just want a few bites and not chocolate fondue for 6. Also good for letting your guests flavour their own personal fondue while still being social.

I also use several of them as gravy boats on a long table or next to a particular dish if serving buffet style. Much better than poorly made insulated gravy boats that fall apart or trap food under the rim.

Cons: Not cheap & you have to buy more than one to make it really useful.

I take issue with people who don't try to find out if they're getting the size they want when they are buying sight unseen. These are individual serving pieces. Think cupcakes as opposed to a whole cake. The idea is that you can serve eight people their own little apple crisp, for example. It takes a little more work, but that's the idea; your guests feel special. These are very well-made, as is all le creuset cast iron enameled cookware. Holds heat very well (never use high heat with enameled cast iron), making it even more so a great oven-to-table piece. I have eight and love them. Hand wash, even though the manufacturer says the dishwasher is okay. I've heard of there being problems over time with the enamel finish. Darling miniature (as the title of the product indicates) casseroles, also useful and durable. PS. There is a similar product, mini cocottes, made in Thailand and they are earthenware, same size and comes in the same colors. make sure you're getting cast-iron (if that's what you want).

Honest reviews on Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron 1/3-Quart Mini Cocotte

These Le Creuset Mini cocottes have a 10 oz. capacity and do not have an enamel interior, rather a non-stick seal over the cast iron. Still deserves a five-star rating for overall quality.

When not in use the two cocottes I own serve to contain commonly used salts on my counter top (red/kosher salt & blue/grey salt).
