I decided to order the Lodge 6-quart dutch oven based on previous glowing reviews and much research (I even called Lodge to discuss quality control since their enamelware is made in China). I really wanted Staub or Le Creuset from France but decided I didn't want to spend the extra money. Well, the adage "you get what you pay for" has proven true once again. After using the Lodge only one time some of the porcelain finish came off from around one of the bolts on the inside of the lid. And, pray tell, where did this porcelain go? In our food? I can only presume so I will have to throw away the rest of the chili I made. Hope we didn't ingest the glass yesterday before I noticed the missing finish. I will be ordering Staub or Le Creuset later today and won't look back. Sorry, Lodge. You should have stuck to manufacturing all your pots in the USA.

Let me first admit that I have owned this pot for 5+ years and used the heck out of it. Having said that, we didn't use it for anything unusual soup, braising, applesauce, etc. For the first five years we mostly just saw chipping around the lid edge and pot edge, as well as some issues with hot spots. However, in the last three months what started as a very small chip in the enamel on the bottom has turned in to a huge crater that is actively flaking cast iron. Needless to say it is now completely useless. I have contacted Lodge and been informed that they have a "limited guarantee" and they have requested a photo of the hole, which I sent. No word yet, but I will update this review if they replace the dutch oven. I'd take a replacement because I'm thrify but if we end up purchasing a new one I will not buy Lodge again we have a smaller Le Creuset that we use almost as much and the difference in quality is huge.

I bought the 6 qt. in patriot red about 6 years ago. I was so excited. I first saw it on The Food Network, Dave Lieberman's show. And the price was $84.00! What a bargain!I'd wanted a Le Crueset so much, but could't justify the price.... Well, I used it only a few tims and it chipped! I called Lodge and they were very nice. They paid for shipping and replaced the pot... As soon as I used it once, I noticed that a tiny area under one of the handles had a chip. I didn't want to be bothered sending it back yet again, since you really can't see it unless you look for it. So that's where I stand... I've used it many times, and no more chips and it really does a great job... BUT, I have to treat it with kid gloves. I have since purchased a Le Crueset round 5.5 qt saute pan that I LOVE and TRUST and have used so many times for skillet dinners. It is wonderful! I then bought a 6 3/4 qt oval Le Crueset Dutch oven.... Love that one too... The issue for me is the fact that they are an American Company that has blown its own horn over their "Made in America" Standard, but then Sold Out, and decided to do their manufacturing "on the cheap" in China! Le Crueset is a FRENCH COMPANY that has high standards and manufactures their pots in France! Its a problem that is helping to destroy this country! We outsource everything! Lodge should be ashamed!
Honest reviews on Lodge L Series E6D30 Enameled Cast Iron Dutch Oven, Liberty Blue
I agree with others that the picture is off on the color. The actual color is more of a Navy blue. I didn't experience any of the porcelain chipping or cracking and I've made bread in it several times with the lid at temperatures up to 500 degrees, and filled it with oil for frying. I haven't had any issues with it that you wouldn't get with any dutch oven, such as it's freaking big and heavy. True it isn't made in the USA, but it doesn't say it all over the add either. It's hard to find a dutch oven in this size and price range that doesn't have a plastic handle.

I love the color of this dutch oven. Darker blue than the picture, but still a true blue (no hints of purple or gray). It cleans well after cooking and I use it nearly once a week. It heats and cooks so evenly that I spend less time stirring and checking the temperature of my foods. The handles are easy to utilize with bare hands, cooking towels and mitts a huge plus. The handle for the lid looks funny in the pics, but is very easy to use. I love this dutch oven and wish I wouldn't have waited so long to buy it. Worth the price!
