First off, this is a really great idea: a 'hollow' hamburger, with your condiments on the inside, instead of dripping off the top. When the Stuff-a-Burger Press arrived, I made myself a smaller burger than the burger press is designed for, with two kinds of cheese, mustard, ketchup, spices and a bunch of pickle slices, all on the inside! It was, I have to admit, delicious.

The bad news? It took a half-pound of of lean hamburger! As I said, this was smaller than the instructions called for-if I'd followed them, it would have been a three-quarter pounder, not counting the filling.

I would love to see the company make a smaller version (although it may be that you need a certain amount of mass for the whole thing to hold together). I just can't see myself eating burgers the size of a Smart Car on a very frequent basis.

I bought this because I just love the cheese on the inside of my burger. This seemed like an elegant solution. Not so much. The burger it produces is ENORMOUS!!! It is literally like a one pound burger. The burger dwarfs the bun; any bun. It is simply too much burger. And take this from a 220 lbs ex-rugby player. It is just too much. I barley finish it, my girlfriend hardly puts a dent in it. And it wastes so much meat. On the bright side, my dog does really enjoys this from the amount of leftovers he gets.

The sheer magnitude of the colossal burger also belies another problem: cooking. If you cook it like a normal burger it will be burnt on the outside, and raw on the inside. If you do decide to go this route, despite pleadings from your cardiologist not to, low heat, long cook.

A for idea, F for design. It is simply gluttonous and wasteful. I wanted to love it too. Spare yourself the letdown.

Makes real BIG burgers.

Big pocket for lotsa goodies.

4 stars only because the press has a tendency to hold onto the meat.

I used this for the first time and it worked great. Nice pocket, and nothing oozed out. I thought it was supposed to have a thicker plate for 1/2 lb burgers but it did not. Oh well, I like big burgers anyway, so not really an issue.

I bought this after seeing the companies demonstration video on youtube. I wish I had read all the customer feedback. The press is by far the best and heaviest i have seen on the market outside of the expensive commercial metal models. I bought this because their video says that you can make 1/2 pound or 3/4 LB Stuffed Burgers with it. The unit is suppose to come with a thicker bottom insert when you dont wish to make the colossal 3/4 LB but apparently they decided on the final production products to NOT include this other insert, because their is no mention of it on the packaging. I e-mailed Charcoal Companion to see why this insert was not included? (many other reviewers state not receiving it either) and got no reply from the manufacture. I've decided to use my mechanical inclination skills and make an insert out of a piece of plexiglass to place under the normal bottom to make a thinner patty rather than hassle with returning it and buying on of the flimsy plastic models.
