In my search for the perfect lightweight non-stick frying pan, I bought this one and gave it a try. So far so good. It does come with a list of warnings, such as no metal utensils, no freezing, no stacking other pans on top of it, no knocking anything against it (something hard to avoid when putting pans and plates in the sink), etc. This is a well made and solid pan, but the care warnings make it look like just another ceramic coated pan that has to be babied. I use both wood and silicone plastic cooking utensils. I will not be using high heat, as even though it lists a 920F(450C) degree maximum cooking temperature limit, I don't trust any ceramic coated pan not to peel at a high cooking temperature. I will be using it with a Medium High maximum heat setting. It does come with a heavy glass cover to control grease spatter and allow you to contain the heat and view the cooking process, but at Medium High you don't get that much spatter to begin with. I always cook with a small slice of salt-free butter, for the taste, and out of habit from many years of trying to keep food from sticking to a stainless steel frying pan. I tried frying an egg with a soapy water washed dry pan and no butter, but the egg stuck to the pan. I also tried frying an egg with a little water in the bottom of the pan. The egg still stuck, but not as much as it did with a dry pan. So much for non-stick. Back to using a slice of butter. Unless there is food stuck to the pan, I do not wash it with soap and water and a scrub sponge. Like the old fashioned cast iron frying pans, I just wipe it out with a tissue or paper towel. And like the old heavy cast iron frying pans, does a slight fat residue help to prevent sticking? Possibly. On the negative side, the pan has concentric rings on the bottom surface where it contacts the stove, making it a little harder to keep clean if anything sticks to it. The pans heats evenly, but will still burn food, even when cooking with butter. Perhaps a Medium heat cooking temperature would be safer if you are trying to do other things at the same time like a short-order cook (multi-tasking, not distracted cooking). I will keep this review open for further updates. If anyone knows of any good, hard-wearing, lightweight, non-stick 10" frying pans that don't require special care, please let me know by adding a comment.

NOTE: I wondered where the pan was manufactured, as it is not listed anywhere on the packaging, on the insert, or on the pan itself. There is no clear country of origin stating: Made in Germany. If their marketing department is being deceitful about the country of origin, what else are they being deceitful about? I also wondered about the SGS Lab Test Results, as the pages are printed on the insert so small, that except for the SGS title at the top of the pages, they are unreadable. Using a magnifying glass, it was obvious that they were too small for the printing process as well, as the print is nothing more than a blur of small colored dots. I have contacted the Healthy Legend company about these matters, and I will update this review when I receive a reply.

01/09/13 update: I received this info from sales@healthylegend.com:

"The uncoated pan and lid are from a subcontractor in Hungary. The final assembly and the ceramic coating is done in Germany where they want to control the process and keep it as secret. It is marked on the box Made in Germany. Most of the cost is the coating so it is classified as Made in Germany."

"As far as the SGS review, that is the factory thing and we are just selling pans so I cannot tell you."

Also, on another reply:

"It doesn't have a SGS test page for each pan. That would be a waste of paper as few people would be so technical to read it."

And so it goes. Their sales department staffers do not seem to be as informed as they could be, or should be, concerning their products.

05/01/13 update: I gave up on the Telebrands Orgreenic Frying Pan after five months of use (recycled it), and started using this Healthy Legend pan instead. In the past, I have only used this Healthy Legend pan a few times as a second cooking pan.

10/24/13 update: The cooking surface on this Healthy Legend frying pan does not show any signs of peeling or chipping, but the non-stick ability is only a memory. On the sidewalls, the very top inner edge shows some chipping, probably from contact with stoneware plates and other pans in the sink. The pan requires a bit of a soak, -before cleaning with a soapy plastic scrub sponge, but unlike my old stainless steel pan, it does not require heavy scraping and heavy scrubbing. This pan is aluminum, with an exposed aluminum bottom. I do not use an induction surface electric stove, and I do not know if this pan will work on an induction surface electric stove.

Great pan! I can't believe I've lived without all these years! I want to actually cook more. I am happiest because of its health properties, and I don't have to worry about what we are ingesting. Heats fast, cooks well, easy breezy clean up. I already own a saucepan and I can't wait to get my entire collection and replace some of my stainless steel. Thank you for the previous reviewers, that helped me with the purchase.

Best Deals for 9.5" Fry pan with Non-stick German Weilburger Ceramic Coating

I haven't historically been a fan of non-stick pans, but I wanted a pan that would satisfy those that did in the household without introducing PFTE. I did a little research and it seemed that the German Weilburger applied ceramic coated pans could perform. This pan has changed my mind about non-stick pans. It cooks well, browns well, and cleans crazy easy. It is so non-stick I need two spatulas to flip an egg (one to hold it in place so I can get the other underneath). I have now had this for about two months and have observed no degradation in the performance of the pan while in nearly daily use. I confidently recommend this pan as a substitute for PFTE pans. Note that this pan, like a PFTE pan, needs you to be generally gentle with it and in particular to use soft (not metal) utensils to keep it in prime shape. If you don't like this, I would suggest well seasoned cast iron pans as an alternative.

Honest reviews on 9.5" Fry pan with Non-stick German Weilburger Ceramic Coating

I bought this one for 6 months now. I am using this everyday to cook my breakfast and dinner. The non-stick works well. The handling is good and the pan is very durable. I love to be able to do away with Teflon coating. I think the German ceramic coating is unbeatable. I saw there are some other ceramic coatings out there but I rather pay a little more for the best.

After much, I mean really alot, of research I was able to determine that the coating on this pan is truly non toxic. The manufacturer makes many pans that are NOT non-toxic so I really had to be sure. I wanted to really put it's nonstick abilities to the test. So...I made a cheese omelet with NO butter or oil. That's right! Eggs directly on the pan. Cheese oozing out. I notice that it took a longer time to come to temperature than my Alclad nonstick..but..once there I had to turn down the heat and then it performed wonderfully. Folks..this coating is so nonstick that I had trouble flipping the omelet because it kept sliding away from the spatula! Finally I just flipped it with the pan..you know..like the fancy guys on television do?! The other day I sauteed some mushrooms and added a mixture of tomato paste and molasses. The pan was too hot for that and instead of liquifying it went straight to soft ball stage...as in candy making! Not a problem...stuff just slid right out. I sure hope this is really this good. Don't want to find out 10 yrs from now that..."ooops...sorry guys...we were wrong..this non-toxic ceramic causes cancer"!
