Bought as a spare. If the pressure cooker holds up, this will be a necessity later. Alsothese do hold odor a little.

I'm careful to wash the sealing ring every time I use the pressure cooker, so my original will hopefully last quite a while. I bought the spare just in case, so I don't get caught without one if there is damage to the original.Best Deals for Instant Pot® Silicon Sealing Ring
The Instant Pot pressure cooker is a winner -a great product. What I like about it at best is that the pot is stainless steel -no chemical treatment.
But this ring seems to be the "weak link" in the "no chemical" approach.
(It works from a mechanical standpoint although it does stretch out in time.)
My question is whether there is some alternative that is metal or not a chemical compound.
Any ideas?
They say that silicone is safe for cookware. Yes of course. Many chemicals have been deemed safe right up to the point where there were deemed unsafe. The chemists keep one step ahead of the researchers, FDA et at. (Look at trail through artificial sweeteners ... one goes down and harmful and the next "safe" one is ready ... until they find that the safe one is harmful.)
In any event, if silicone holds up to high temperature, what then is that smell? If it is outgassing, what is being shed isn't just going in your nose ... it is going into your food. So what is it?
Even if silicone is safe, the question then is how do you know that what you buy as silicone is "pure" and not laden with other chemicals from the manufacturing process?
Nothing is "pure" in reality.
So I'd like a sealing ring that doesn't give off an plastic odor.
