This thing has quicky become my favorite kitchen appliance. I had despaired of ever being able to afford a full-size induction cooktop -they're priced much higher than electric or gas cooktops at the stores I've checked -but at only $50, I could get three more of these single-burners and have the equivalent of a 4-burner cooktop, for far less money. I have always cooked on gas for the flexibility and immediacy of temperature control (I refuse to cook on the old electric burners with heating elements). But it always bothered me that: A) I knew was wasting energy, especially on hot days, when I felt the heat from the flames coming up around the sides of the pot, and B) a nearby fan or wind from an open window would often blow the flame in one direction or another, resulting in less -and less even -heat being applied to the food. Well, induction has solved all these problems. It really does heat up right away like gas does, and gets as hot as electric at full power. There are two ways of adjusting the heat, either by setting the temperature you want, or by dialing 1-10 on the power button. And the heat output changes instantly, just like gas. One unexpected benefit is that the handles of my cookware don't get as hot, since the heat is concentrated on the area where the pan actually touches the burner. This also makes it safer to use, since you don't have to turn off the gas when your hands are full, or wait for the heating element to cool: as soon as you lift the pan off the burner, it stops producing heat. (The burner does remain warm for a while, only because heat from the cookware has transferred back to the burner, just as it would if you placed a hot pan on the counter or any other surface.) It plugs into any standard outlet, and uses only as much electricity as a blow dryer. It's flat surface is easy to clean. I've got a tiny kitchen, and I'm thinking of moving the old gas range out to the patio for when I need a full-size oven, putting in some shelves in its place, and just using these for my stovetop, plus my toaster oven and microwave, so I'll have more space in the kitchen. I'm convinced that most everyone will have induction in a few years, once they experience the benefits. This is a bargain price on something I use every day.

I have become hooked on induction cooking, This is my second unit,

The first is a Nu-Wave ($100) and I am very happy with it. This one

cost $50 and while it works, it doesn't work near as well as the Nu-Wave.

It takes longer to heat up and longer to cool down. It is slightly harder

to operate. As I said it does the job and it is only half the price of

the Nu-Wave. I hope it lasts,
