Own a Kitchenaid Pro 600 stand mixer. Thought I'd try this attachment for quick slicing of vegetable, specificially cucumbers for the most part. Thought I'd be safe, since it's Kitchenaid, the mixer is pretty solid, since the graphics show it slicing cucumbers, and since page 3 of the instructions indicate which "blade" to use for cucumbers. Got home and washed it. Had a few fresh cucumbers. Tried the "thin" blade. It turned the cucumbers into watery mush. Tried several different techniques, then tried the "thick" blade. Same thing. So, called Kitchenaid the next day.

First, Kitchenaid support tried to tell me that the image on the package was a zuchini and not a cucumber. Uh, Not. It's a cucumber. Then they said that cucumbers (like some other things such as celery) had too high a water content and would not slice well, and that I should use a food processor. I mention that page 3 of the instructions explicitly state to use the thin blade for cucumbers, and they first say I'm wrong, and then say they don't know. Very very poor product performance and very very poor service by Kitchenaid. They do have some nice products, such as the mixer in general, however this item is simply terrible.

does not slice well. crushes more than slices. lots of pieces get stuck between the blade and the slicer. I have had good luck with other kitchen aid accessory's. This one does not work well.

As with my review of the grinder attachment for the KA mixer I must state that my shredder/slicer is probably close to 20 years old and build quality may have changed over the years but this does not change my opinion of this product asd I know it.

I use this mostly for grinding bread crumbs perfect I'm besieged with requests for my homemade crumbs because they are slightly coarse and heavy with herbs and spices ( qualities sadly lacking in commercially available varieties), grating cheese in quantity ( and to answer another question found here it does a great job with Parmesan and Pecorino Romano cheese as well as mozzarella, cheddar and other softer varieties.) and making mountains of hash browns for breakfast.

The slicing detail requires some getting used to I find that squishy results are usually due to impatience on the part of the operator or too much pressure on the the dual mashers. But to be completelt honest I prefer hand slicing or using a mandoline for these tasks much more controllable

The moveable tab that locks the shaft of the slicing cones into place can sometimes disengage causing the cone assembly to slide out but this is a relatively rare occurance.

Lastly, I noticed on the last use that the neck of the plastic housing has a small crack in it that in no way affects performance. I was a little disappointed that it only lasted 20 years before cracking what kind of quality is that? ( My attempt at sarcasm, Mea Culpa)

Based on its ability to do what I need it to and do it efficiently I give this attachment 4 stars If it had lasted longer than 20 years and sliced vegetables like a mandoline I would have awarded 5 stars, but sadly that was not to be....

Honest reviews on Kitchenaid RVSA KitchenAid Rotor Vegetable Slicer/Shredder

The slicer works great! It is easy and quick to install and clean up.

Biggest complaint we read in other reviews was how difficult it was to remove a cone from the shaft. When using the "square opening" in the housing, it's a snap! The cones are more than sharp enough to slice firm cheeses and vegetables.

No more hand cranking hallelujah! Shipment was quick. I would order from this retailer again.

I am very happy with this! I thought it would not work well for the edges seemed too dull It did work for it made the prep time 1?16th of the time it usually takes for making scalloped potatoes and ham. With cheese it works good but with the ham you needed to add the potatoes simultaneously to help push it through! glad I got it!
