Don't mess with tradition...this is the same crab pot I grew up with! Simple, and practical...we use it outside on the side burner of the grill to get a good rolling boil for steam that you don't get with the new electric stove tops. The PERFECT steamer for blue crabs in the Chesapeake Bay tradition! Hint: add 2 cups of water, 2 cups of vinegar & 2 beers to the base, and bring to a boil...load live crabs in top, layering with "Old Bay" and steam til they turn red (10 min?). ENJOY them while they are HOT!

These Granite Ware steamer pots are an absolute must have. I've used them for more than 30 years and have always loved how long they last and how beautifully they steam lobsters, clams, oystersyou name it.They're also wonderful for steaming veggies, chicken, fish and virtually whatever you like. The bottom pot is also perfect for anything from pasta to chili.
If you're concerned about the size not being large enough, it's perfect. I've fit four 5 pound lobsters, 2 pounds of cherry stone clams and potatoes without a problem. Plus unlike the monster 33 quart this fits well on the stove be it electric or gas.
Keep in mind the larger sizes are not recommended for glass top cooking ranges. However this size is fine.
I noticed my 19 quart which has to be at least a decade old had rusted on the bottom and I needed to replace it, some specialty sites were almost twice the list price as these pots aren't the easiest to find, hence the jacked up pricing.
Delighted to find my exact steamer pot by Granite Ware here on Amazon at such a bargain I didn't hesitate to buy it.
The pot arrived in two days ( gotta love the Amazon Prime benefits ) especially if like me, you shop on Amazon often.
The steamer arrived wonderfully packaged, in it's original factory box inside an Amazon box.
Again, this is a wonderful addition to any kitchen. Well made, versatile and despite it's size it's very easy store even if you have limited space.
Terrific Value!

For those of us who love steamed crabs, this is the pot to have. While you can get a pot like this in Maryland at any Wal-mart, since I moved to Florida, on-line is the only way to get one. This one was the right size for the right price.Honest reviews on Granite Ware 6317-1 19-Quart Enamel-on-Steel 2-Tier
I've grown up eating Maryland blue crabs and this is the only way to steam them. This pot is extremely durable as the one I just replaced lasted a good 20 years before finally needed to be replaced. All you need is beer, water, and vinegar in the bottom portion of the pot. Live blue crabs and old bay in the top portion and 10-20 minutes of steaming till you get the best eating you can have.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Granite Ware 6317-1 19-Quart Enamel-on-Steel 2-Tier
I bought the clam steamer to replace one that I had for years.I got the product a few days after placing the order. I used it twice in one weekend. I steamed crab in it and I also used it to steam lobster. Worked great both times and it was very easy to clean up. Highly recommend it to anyone looking for a steamer.
