If you find yourself questioning the value of this steamer...you are right. It's useful enough for steaming a few servings, but the Chef's Classic line is not the most solidly constructed. It might be my fault for not looking closer, but I was disappointed to receive a glass cover, which adds little functionality, but huge risk of breakage. The pot also loses a good deal of steam and the steamer and lid handles are too small and they get too hot. The insert is what they throw in with the cookware sets, and is really not worth buying on its own merits. I like Cuisinart in general, but really wish I had separately bought a 4qt pot, ideally multi-clad, and the steamer insert with the metal cover and long, cool handle. Or if you'd rather pay less than more, there are a few other steamer sets on Amazon that would probably be just as good as this mediocre steamer.

I love this set -I purchased it for steaming veggies. It's easy to clean and the parts all fit together well. It cooks evenly and is a beautiful addition to my kitchen cookware. Highly recommend!

Seller did not ship the item as advertised and did not make it right. The set 77-35CG is shown with a glass lid, hence the "CG". The received set was 77-35 which has a stainless steel lid. One of the criteria's I had on deciding which set to buy was clear glass lid. The seller would not supply the item I ordered as an exchange for the item I received. They would not even supply a glass lid or a web site that would sell the lid. I contacted Cuisinart directly and they do not sell that lid separately... it is only sold with the set that I ordered. I will never buy from the seller again as they did not resolve the problem nor answer my emails time and time again. The seller did not make a mistake in shipping, they intentionally shipped me the wrong item... that is bait and switch.

A good little steamer. The stainless is a little "bendy". For instance, if you pick up only the saucepan 2/3's full of water, you can feel the handle bending under the load. Pick it up by the handle with the basket filled with vegetables and the lid on, and it's very pronounced. The other thing that takes it out of the five-star category is the multiple ridges around the bottom of the steamer basket. I assume these are for fitting it onto other pans of varying sizes, but it's unlikely I will ever need to do that, so they are a nuisance to wash and dry. (Yes, I still do dishes by hand.) I would gladly have paid for something a little more sturdy.
