I've been searching for the perfect tea kettle for several months now, and this is almost it. I didn't buy it from this seller, rather I found it for about half the price at Ross. I'd never heard of it before seeing it at the store, but after examining it, my mind was made up. First, the kettle is seamless stainless steel with an aluminum heat distribution plate on the bottom. Is it high quality stainless? Good questions, because there's no indication anywhere on the kettle or the box. Just that it says "heavy duty" "High quality stainless." But that's okay, time will tell. Is the aluminum bottom properly fused to the kettle? Again, hard to say, but time will tell. The inside LOOKS non-stick, but after reading some other reviews, I believe it's simply unpolished stainless (looks sandblasted). The black rubber handle feels like silicone and it's THICK so I'm not concerned about getting burned. The lid fits securely with a deep rim that is both easy to remove and durable.

Now for the negatives. Fit and finish are a little lacking. The handle is secured to the kettle by philips head screws, which I don't mind because they can be tightened up unlike rivets... however brazed or welded would have been a little cleaner looking. The spout mechanism is very basic and not what I'd call "smooth" but it works and I do believe in the KISS principle. The whistle itself is plastic with a chrome finish, and that's the only things I'm disappointed with. It's not as loud as my previous Kitchen Aid and just seems cheap, but being a tinkerer, I'll likely try to replace it with a better, stainless whistle.

Overall, I'm please with the purchase. I would have given it 5 stars if it weren't for the whistle and the lack of specific material information (made in china). Is it worth $40? We'll see how it holds up.
