I bought this Le Creuset French Oven in Cherry, my first, at their outlet and LOVE IT. I paid a good deal less than what it is advertised for, but my piece was an imperfect "second", with slightly uneven coloring and a small bump in the ceramic on the inside. (Hard to tell unless you are looking for imperfections) The cherry coloring actually seems to have gotten better with use.

I didn't think this pot would make that big of a difference but I've used it half a dozen times and have really enjoyed how evenly it heats. I've made stew twice now and the cast iron sides ensure even heating all the way around rather than just from the bottom up. It works well in distributing flavors and for cooking things over the course of an hour or more. I originally was considering getting a slow cooker but I think this works better for what I need.

My biggest concern was the size since it is smaller than the "standard". This size is perfect for 1.5-2 lbs of stew meat plus vegetables -I tried making 3 lbs. of stew and ended up having to add another pot. I usually turn it up to high heat, brown my meat, and then turn it down and add the liquids. I was able to fold in a 2 lb. tri-tip roast that ended up shrinking down and fitting well. It also held less chili than I usually make (6 servings instead of 8-10). This size is perfect for 2 people plus leftovers. If you have a family of four, I'd recommend going up at least to the 5.5, if not larger.

The food stays hot a long time and the pot is very easy to clean. No scrubbing needed, I just wipe the surface with a soapy dish towel. If necessary, I use my little plastic scraper to get the caked-on bits.

You must use a wooden spoon or silicon tool to avoid scratching the ceramic.

Looking forward to trying out Thai chicken curry next. Yum!

The Flame color is really gorgeous in person and had they had this pot in that color for the price I paid, I would have snatched it up.

I mainly use this pot for cooking chickpeas. The water comes to a boil very quickly on the stovetop; then I put them in the oven. The beans cook up much softer than in any other pan I have ever cooked them in; and yet, they still hold their shape. There is just something about the Le Creuset pans that makes everything you cook in them better. I have owned stainless steel pots, Vision Ware pots, stoneware pots, and Lodge cast iron without the ceramic coating. This is more expensive, but to me it is worth it because it works better than all the rest, it is easy to clean, and is nice looking to boot! It is heavy, but the handles are well-designed and make it well-balanced.

I own several Le Creuset pieces and use them daily. Yes, they are expensive but they last forever. My wife's grandmother recently past some of her old Le Creuset to us.

I just purchased this dutch oven for my daughter and her husband. I am sure they will be thrilled with it, in fact my daughter asked for one based on the good service we have gotten from ours. I own three other pieces of Le Creuset as well and am pleased with them all. The dutch oven is showing its age. The interior enamel is wearing thin and the exterior enamel has some minor chips.

We use the dutch oven a lot, at least one or twice per week. I bought all my Le Creuset pieces just before I married 37 years ago. It is the only cookware we bought starting out that is still with us. I am very confident it will survive us. It is the best, the very best.
