I have the bigger version of the Granite Ware canner and wanted something for smaller jars, and that would fit better on my stove top. Since I don't can the larger quart sized jars this is perfect for smaller jars (especially 8 oz. 1/2 pints). Also, this size is HARD TO FIND, and the rack that goes inside is a smaller so handles smaller jars better.

Long ago I had a larger canner, one made for quart jars and the like, and the smaller jars (8 ounce jars or smaller) would tip and fall through the rack. Today, I used the smaller canner and did not have that problem. Instead the wide month 8 ounce jars fit inside the rack but it was a tight squeeze. I managed to get four jars inside the canner and I don't know if I could have managed 7 jars as stated in the leaflet. I don't blame the canning company as the canner was probably designed for the old-fashioned narrow jars (not the wide mouth type) long ago. I am sure if the traditional jars were used this canner would offer outstanding ease of use. Four stars for the tight squeeze but five stars for the ability to can without tipping jars like the previous canner.Ease of use: Fairly easy. Ease of clean up: Outstanding as this canner fit easily into my kitchen sink and washing it was a breeze.
Update: Today I used the traditional jelly jars in the canner. They fit very nicely and preparing the jelly was a breeze. This is a very nice canner worth the money paid for it.

Granite Ware 11 1/2 Quart Covered Preserving Canner with RackIf you don't need to can quarts, and want to keep the weight you lug around down, this canner is great. It comes to a boil faster than the big canner for quarts, too. You can fit pints, 12 oz., and/or 8 oz. jars in this canner. I have a quart size canner, but use it only when I have an especially large batch to can, or want to speed the canning process by having two pots boiling. You may have trouble fitting seven pint jars into the rack. I just use a slender 12 oz. jar as the seventh one to help with the tight fit.
