Ok, Ok, I know sure this is heavy it's cast iron. Well, I own at least a dozen pieces of Le Creuset and Staub and this one is a man killer. I have a Le Creuset Turkey Roaster (7 quart) that is a similar diameter and a 9 1/2 quart oval Le Creuset, that is just a little smaller, but neither prepared me for this. I am a cajun and know my way around a black iron pot but this one is beyond that.

This thing weighs 32 pounds, empty! can you image if you put 3 gallons of liquids into it? Easily 50 pounds, and that is not even full. Now I will lead with one caveat, at least 10 pounds is the lid. WHAT! yes, the lid is at least 10 pounds.

Ok, in the nature of full disclosure, I didn't cook in the thing, why do you ask? Cause it doesn't fit in my sink to clean, this pot is big. I have stainless undermount double bowl sink and I can only get half the pot into it. Now my turkey roaster is about half the height so even though it is still to long I can still wash it, and the 9 1/2 quart is about 3 inches smaller on the long side and "just" fits. If you have a large single vessel sink you should be fine.

Now, here is one other thing, Staubs are more cylindrical than Le Creuset, meaning the lids are flatter (on the inside). Ok, so what does this mean? It means I can get a small turkey (~ 10 pounds) into my 9 1/2 quart but not into this one. Disappointed, I wanted to try this.

Ok, ok so what is the verdict? I love Staub, if I could trade most of my le creuset I would, the inside finish is just better, true not as slick and non stick, but more "bulletproof" and needs less babying. If this pot was a "little" lighter, or fit my sink I might have kept it, but the logistics made me send it back, I was heartbroken.

So I did spring for the 8.75 quart that Amazon was selling for just over 2 bills a couple of days later, that should fit no problem and slot in above my 5 quart staub round and below my Le Creuset Oval. This means I can use the oval less (because of the babying factor) and mainly for roasting meats which it does well.

So in conclusion Caveat Emptor.
