I was stationed in Portugal many years ago and love roasted chestnuts, with a good charcoal fire and this skillet, you can recreate that authentic flavor of the street vendors of Lisbon selling their chestnuts on a chilly day. Great construction and really does the job!

Five minutes over a gas burner, and they're done. Don't forget to score the chestnuts before cooking, or they will explode. Also, you must continuously agitate the pan while cooking or the chestnuts will burn. but what fun!
The handle does not get hot; the part near the pan does get warm, though. I don't wash it, so it's never rusted on me. Just wipe it clean before putting it away at the end of the season.
Honest reviews on Paderno Black Carbon Steel 11 Inch Chestnut Pan
I lived in italy for Many years, they have street vendors in the winter time selling roasted chestnuts that you buy in a brown paper bag, hot, fresh wonderful tasting. I take this pan with m to friends houses and we cook chestnuts on an open flame and they come out just as good as what i used to eat in italy. Add a little sea salt and score them correctly so they steam inside the shell , cook them until they are black like coal on the outside and keep shaking them back and forth. Movement is key. Great product.

I have used it several times. It is solid piece of work. Not too heavy by any means. All in all, maybe my best purchase of the year. I paid a fair price and got something that is outstanding. That's the way it should be. I use it on a gas range. It is a step up from baking the chestnuts.
