These are my first stainless pans. I've had Le Creuset cast iron pans which were okay, but everything stuck to them. My last set of pans was Emeril non-stick. They were fine, but like all non-stick pans, they eventually scratch, and don't allow the natural flavor of the food to enhance in cooking. My cousin is a fabulous cook and she has a set of Emeril stainless steel cookware, but for years I was scared to buy those pans because she has problems with the food sticking and has to let them soak a lot.
I am a "research it to death before you buy it" person, especially when it comes to more expensive stuff, so believe me when I say I did plenty when it came to these pans. First of all, these pans arrive individually wrapped in a beautiful silky black bag, and they are gorgeous. If you could call a pan "elegant," these pans definitely fit the bill.
Cooking in these pans is actually fun. It's an experience...not a chore. It's different than cooking in non-stick, so definitely read up on to the "how-to's" if you've never used stainless cookware before.
BUY THESE PANS....you won't regret it!!! I am definitely an All-Clad fan!

Think about the ideal pan. What would make it the best pan on the market? The main thing is you want it to heat evenly. The pan conducts heat from your burner to your food, and a cheap one will have hot spots, meaning your food will be cooked more in the middle than on the outside. You also want the handle to be tightly attached and the whole unit well-weighted so it doesn't wobble as you're carrying around hot stuff. If there's a lid, you'd like that to fit snugly. All of these are true of the D5s. They heat more evenly than anything but maybe the All-Clad D7s, but those have some drawbacks due to the copper core. They're extremely well-crafted. I feel like I could bludgeon an intruder to death with the 12" skillet.
They're also just beautiful. Hanging from a pot rack they're a work of art.
All-Clad wins just about every category in Cook's Illustrated reviews. This isn't coincidence. The D5s are probably the best pans ever made.
