This tureen and lid survived an extended tumble down a long, steep, brick driveway, and emerged in perfect condition. Surely a lower quality piece whose ears and pedestal were not 'built in' to the main bowl would not have made it.
Most footed bowls seem unstable or awkward to me, but the heft of the pedestal keeps this one balanced so it seems to be glued to the table, rather than waiting for an opportunity to topple.
The detailing is precise. True to Pillivuyt's claims, these can definitely mingle on the table with fine china as long as your china is nice enough to stand with this functional porcelain; some of my vintage pieces are definitively out shined.I bought this lidded lion's head tureen as a gift for my mother so that I can continue to send her additional ones to add to a collection for her. Since I had it shipped to her address, I have to assume it arrived in good condition.
