Changing the blade was a very simple process. If you don't have a retainer nut wrench and don't want to buy one it is possible to use a pair of pliers to remove the retainer nut (the large metal ring on the bottom of the container).
Here's how:
You will notice that the retainer nut has two raised portions with a gap between them.
1. Get a pair of medium sized pliers.
2. Open them all the way.
3. The jaws should sit nicely in the retainer nut gaps.
4. Grasp the handles and turn counter clockwise while aligning the jaws in the gap.
5. This should loosen the retainer nut. ( Mine was not very tight at all)
The directions that come with the replacement blade are very good. Basically once you have removed the retainer nut you will grasp the blade from the inside of the container with a cloth and pull it out. Clean anything dirty then reassemble in reverse. Drop in new assembly, lightly oil threads and secure retainer nut.
During the assembly and reassembly process it is necessary to secure the container. I found it easy enough to put it on the ground and lock the container with my knees. I felt it was all pretty easy but this assumes a basic amount of coordination and being comfortable with hand tools. Good luck.

works as well as the original. I tried replacing the bearings and seals in my old blade assembly, which requires a press (you can use a vise) and collets (I used sockets) but the new seals didn't last and then the bearings got corroded and it was a mess. Plus, sourcing the bearings and seals took a while. If you go that route yourself, DO NOT pound anything apart, USE A PRESS or you will peen the heck out of the components and nothing will want to go back together. Don't ask me how I know, I'm still traumatised about it.Best Deals for Vitamix 1152 Wet Blade Assembly
If you aren't certain what's wrong with your Vitamix then call them FIRST. The tech thatwe talked to was able to diagnose our Unit OVER THE PHONE. You must have a speaker
phone, but their techs are spot on.
Make Certain YOU GET THE WRENCH and don't tear up your unit just replacing
the blade assembly. I was tempted, but decided against it.
After removing the old blade assembly and spinning it and comparing it with
the new assembly it was no mystery what was wrong. The inner bearings had started
to seize up. If we had kept trying to use the old assembly it was have burned
out the motor and that would have been big bucks.
