I received this pasta pot for my birthday (black version), and I really like it. At first glance the oval shape seemed a little odd, but it accommodates spaghetti and other long noodles very well. After using it a few times I find I really like the oval shape though, and find it makes for an attractive pot. I LOVE the fact that the lid locks in place and leave me with both hands to hold the handles and pour the water out. It gives me the option of leaving the noodles in the pot and adding the sauce to it to toss and keep warm. Clean up is extremely easy because of the non-stick coating. My old pasta pot and insert was stainless steel and could sometimes be a pain to clean because the gluten hardened at the water evaporation line.

I have an old stove with front and back burners somewhat closer together than I would like. Another advantage to the shape is that it doesn't bump up against the pot on the burner in front.

The handles stay cool and I have not had to use mitts to pick it up. With other pots and pans with non-metal handles I constantly have to keep an eye on the placement of the pan to make sure the handle isn't over the flame. Because the shape of the pot is oval, the handles are never even close to being over the flame so they never heat up.

Since the Amazon description doesn't specify the size of the pot, I had to go to the Bialetti website to find out that the volume of the pot is 5 quarts. This is a generous size and will fit large portions of noodles. The oval footprint holds more water and noodles than it first appears to and I have yet had to fill the pot more than halfway full.

I have owned one since 10 years ago and I'm still using it. I was searching everywhere to buy another one because I had dropped the lid a couple of times and broken the handle, nevertheless, I have been using it without the handle, everything else is in good condition. I finally found it at Amazon and ordered two, one for my sister. It's a great pot, so very convenient to cook pasta in. It's a real pleasure to have.

got as a gift 5+years ago and love it--it's light weight--the top locks securelytop has 2 size holes on it for various size pasta. haven't even needed pot holders to hold handles when emptying.it's not pretty to look at but it looks well seasoned and going strong. it's not going to be a forever pot but I'm willing to replace it when needed.

This pot replaced a round pasta pot that came with an ultra cheap kitchen starter set. The quality of this new pot is excellent, the heat transfer area on the bottom is sturdy and I can't see this pot becoming misshapen like my thin, cheap older pot.

I deducted a star because it took several hand washings to stop getting purple residue in the water. Also, the oval shape of the pot leads to an awkward locking method for the lid that isn't as secure as I'd like. The cheap older pot was round, and the lid positively locked by inserting tabs on the rim of the pot and rotating 90 degrees. When boiling water and steam are involved, I don't want to be concerned about a lid coming loose and dumping my food in the sink or scalding me. For the options I found when looking though, this still seems to be the best combination of quality, price, and utility.

Edit: after several months of use, I don't recommend this pot at all. It's nearly impossible to keep the lid on when draining; I have to use oven mitts and hold the lid while trying to drain... Not something I'll let my wife attempt. This is an accident waiting to happen.

great shape very happy with my purchase. did great through the dishwasher. comes in interesting bright colors. i just got black though.
