I don't know why people advertise these molds as a sushi maker, since any person who actually knows how to make sushi would use their hands, finger molds, or bamboo rolling mats to shape the rice. Real sushi makers would not be caught dead with plastic molds, period.

This mold is meant and designed for making ONIGIRI, NOT SUSHI. It even says that on the packaging, so I don't know why there is so much confusion over this appliance.

That being said, I love this tool. I know how to make onigiri by hand, but this does yield cleaner and nicer looking results. It's very easy to get the onigiri out, too. If you want cuter designs, then I recommend buying flower and heart shapes too.

I got this one as well as another one, and ended up liking the other Japanese Sushi Mold (Triangle, Pink)one better. The reason for that was the inside texture this one has very little, and the rice stuck inside too much. It was kind of a pain to get out, and pushing the little "button" on the one side to push it out put a divit into the onigiri that was dorky looking and showed the filling.

Very Easy to use, and even easier to clean! Would recommend Gliding a knife around the inside edge of the rice mold to loosen the rice before trying to pop the mold out.

I used this gizmo for the first time and I have found a spot for it next to the rectangular musubi maker. Just fill one or two cavities with calrose rice, compress with the lid and use the little pusher flap to pop them out. A bit of umeboshi in the middle while you're building it and sprinkled with furikake after you pop them out. You're off with a great bento box.
