Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I'm going to start with full disclosure: I am not a fan of Rachel Ray. I was interested in these dishes not because they have her name, but in spite of that.

Here's my executive summary:

These are very nice dishes, with an interesting pattern and lots of space for arranging food in an attractive way. I'm finding that they're not practical for me, for daily use.

Now, the details. First, the pros:

* This is a lovely pattern. I would not be ashamed to use it while entertaining. The salad plates are a bit ornate for my taste, but I suppose they provide contrast, and the dinner plates and mugs are quite visually pleasing.

* This is a surprisingly heavy set. My old dishes were Pfaltzgraff stoneware, thick and very heavy. (My mother used to complain about their weight.) These dishes are nearly that heavy and substantial. With care they should last.

Neither pro nor con:

* The salad plates, bowls, and mugs are larger than I'm used to. It looks impressive, and if you like to plate your food with an awareness of the visual aspect, you will find these to be a generously sized canvas for your food art. For my part, I'm trying to use smaller plates to cut back on portion sizes. I switched to using salad plates for meals about a year ago, but these salad plates are not much smaller than my old dinner plates.

Cons:

* The "Important Safety, Use & Care Information" document included with this set warns of all kinds of potential problems. "Please follow this use and care to avoid personal injury and possible damage to your dinnerware." Some of these problems are obvious: the dinnerware is ceramic and will break if dropped; wash before first use and after each use. Some are a bit surprising. "Do not place hot dinnerware directly on a cold countertop as it may cause the dinnerware to crack." Seriously? I've never even wondered what the temperature of my countertop was before. "Stack pieces carefully in like-sized piles with protective felt pads or paper towels in between when storing." Um... no. These warnings go on for quite a while, but I've never had to have an attorney advise me on the correct use of dishes before.

* "Never nest mugs", warns the document. It doesn't matter--you really can't nest the mugs. Because of their shape you can't nest them and you can't turn them upside down and stack one across the bottoms of two mugs. There's a lot of wasted space in my cabinet right now. I had to get rid of eight mugs to store these four.

* I've been running the dishwasher more often since these arrived. The problem is the bowls--because they are so large, with nearly straight sides, they don't fit in my dishwasher's bowl rack. I can put them there, but because of the size and shape they block the water, and the inside of the bowl isn't cleaned. I have to put them down flat, which means that one bowl takes the space of four dishes or four mugs.

* Made in China, of course.

I'm going to keep using these for a while, but I suspect that eventually they'll get stashed somewhere safe, "with "protective felt pads or paper towels in between", to be used when friends visit. So far for me they're too high-maintenance for daily use.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I could care less about what celebrity is behind any product; to me, it's the product itself that matters. In this case, I'm really happy to report that this dinnerware set is both gorgeous and completely suited to everyday use! Even though it's porcelain, the plates, bowls and cups are quite durable. The colors and patterns, also, are pretty, yet in a subtle way, as the colors don't overpower, just enough to bring color to your kitchen. I'm so pleased with my new set!

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program Beautiful and substantial. The pattern and green apple color is just lovely in person. There are little details everywhere (like a little curly design inside the bowls). The dinnerware is ceramic and feels nice and solid and the design is ever so slightly raised to the touch.

It is a bit pricey (not sure if we're paying for Rachel's name here or just high quality), but my favorite thing about this set is that you can easily pick up an inexpensive plain white set and mix it with this one to accommodate more people. The Curly-O pattern is complimentary rather than identical on each piece, so it really does lend itself mixing with other pieces.

Honest reviews on Rachael Ray Dinnerware Curly-Q 16-Piece Dinnerware Set, Green

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program (Disclaimer: I received this dinnerware set at no cost through the Amazon Vine program).

I ordered this set to replace a 7-year-old set from Target. To be honest, I still loved the old set but my wife convinced me it was time to make a change. As soon as these arrived, I was pleasantly surprised.

The pieces seem sturdy and I expect them to last a long time. The pattern on the small plates and bowls feels like it's part of the material so I don't anticipate any fading or flaking.

The bowls are a little smaller than I like personally, but I have been told that my fondness for abnormally large bowls may be atypical. They should be fine for normal use. The small plates are the perfect size for a large piece of cake, which is about all you can ask from a dessert plate. The larger plates and mugs are nice because they have a little bit of character, but they don't overpower all-white pieces if you mix and match (which we do frequently).

The first two runs through the dishwasher did not reveal any problems.

Overall, I think this set is worthy of 5 stars.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I'm not a huge fan of Rachel Ray, however, her dinnerware line is cute and feel durable, so no complaints here! The Curly-Q dinnerware set looks adorable, washes well, and when we received it in the box, it's very well packed (not a single dish harmed during travel!). We like using our set as a casual dinnerware set and have received several compliments on the sheer cuteness factor of the dishes.

We personally love the larger size of the bowls, as we can use them for cereal, and the kids love using them as popcorn/snack bowls. All in all, we love this dinnerware set! Highly recommended!
