Took me a couple of minutes to figure the best way to use this, but once you get the hang of it, its handier than a crutch in a three leg race, and not painful.

It is a good tool to have handy, plus you can move the embers around with it, too.

I have used the lid lifter that requires manually setting the lifter in such a way that it puts tension on the three prongs. Sometimes, if you don't get it just right the lid falls off when you pick it up. This design is a whole lot better and is easy to use and lift the lid off.

I am enjoying using this lid lifter. You do not have to do as much back bending since it is 22 inches long. You also have a tight hold on the dutch oven lid and can shake off the ashes without dropping the lid.

This is a great dutch oven lid lifter. It grips the hot handle on the lid and allows a firm grip on the lid. You also use the leg with the upward curve to turn the whole dutch oven by the bail wire on the dutch oven. As most manuals suggest, every 15 minutes of cooking you turn the dutch oven pot clockwise a 1/4 of a turn and then turn the lid counterclockwise 1/4 turn; this helps prevent hot spots on the oven that burn your food. This 22-inch lifter is great if the dutch oven is being used on ground level. When you have an elevated cooking site like a cooking table, the shorter version of this same lid lifter should give you more control. I use the 9" version of this same lifter for that. I'm glad I got both. Really like Camp Chef lid lifters.
