I've had this board for a two and a half months, taking proper care of it: hand washing, never leaving it dirty or wet and oiling it as suggested. So it was a great disappointment when the board started splitting on the sides. I expected this was a block made for life, instead I got a defective product. Even if its a good, solid block, I do not recommend buying it. Why splurge on a block that deteriorates so fast?

This is a lateral, or longitudinal grained board, not end-grain as advertised. It is, however, reversible, and easy to season. So far, I like it, but only gave 4 stars because of the advertisement is a tad misleading to me.

This is my second John Boos cutting board. Both split. The first last 4 years and the second one split after 10 months. I live 6 miles from the ocean so dryness in the air cannot be a factor. Overall, this appears to be a quality product however they don't seem to last very long.

this is my third chopping block.. nothing compares to boo. first was worn out, I prefer to hand chop. I can get the smallest , almost minced ( garlic). and do onions without losing juice, as in food processor. second one was stolen when I moved to apt. will always but boo.

I love to cut on wood, has good depth and the size was just right for my counter space. Remember to oil it often when new.
