I've inherited many different kinds and types of crystal glasses (wine, water, sherbet, sherry, flutes) from many relatives in the last year and needed something sturdy, and large enough to store them all in. My biggest problem was finding a storage box that could hold my widest sherbet glasses (diameter=4 1/4") and this does. After many weeks of searching, I'll pass on what I've found.

Outside measurements (in inches): 18.5L x 14W x 8.5 H

Inside measurements (in inches): 17.5L x 13W x 8H

With dividers in place, actual free space (in inches): 17 1/4 L x 12 7/8 W x 8H

Each compartment, except the middle two: 4 1/4" x 4 1/4"

Middle two compartments: 4 1/4" x 4 1/8"

My solution (for my 4 1/4" glasses) was to turn those sherbet glasses in the middle compartments upside down to give a little more room (cardboard gave a little more on the bottom part) and that worked perfectly. The outside compartments of the 4x3 are a tiny bit more flexible than the middle ones, probably because the box's sides can give a little more but I would stick with the rule that a 4 1/4" diameter is the maximum you can put into each 4x3 compartment.

The cardboard is about 1/16" and is thick enough to keep glasses from hitting each other but also thin enough to bend or cut if you really need to or you can arrange the dividers which go into pre-cut slits to have different size compartments by removing a horizontal or vertical part.

Don't want any divider? No problem, the container is still strong and sturdy. I placed an extra large china platter and some large bowls into one without the dividers.

The boxes are sturdy enough to stack on top of one another but just remember that the plastic window isn't as protected as the cardboard side, so as long as nothing pointy pokes into it that side, you're fine.

I LOVE this product! It's very sturdy and comes with dividers so your dishes don't clank against each other. The boxes stack well and the handles are secure. I had the little quilted china keepers before, but these are a LOT better. The window is a nice feature, too, especially if you have different sets of dishes or buy them for all the different types, so you can pull what you need off the shelf at a glance.

I purchased these holders for my wedding china. I intended to put 8.25" round plates in here, since the dimensions are listed as 9"x9". However, be warned that the listed dimensions refer to the exterior, and how much room you need to have on your shelf. The interior dimensions actually run about an inch smaller. Thus, this particular box won't hold anything larger than an 8.0" diameter plate or bowl.

I also purchased several other WD China Storage boxes, and they all run 1" small inside. So note the dimensions of your china prior to purchase. I will be using this box for smaller salad bowls, instead of the intended plates.

Otherwise well-constructed.

This chest for dinner plates is 8.5 inches tall by 11.75 x 11.75 inches inside square. My 10 3/8 inch Centura dinner plates fit in it with side room to spare. Twelve plates use about two-thirds of the chest depth. The chest arrives flat with a separate lid. Pull on the fabric side handles and the box frame opens like an accordian. Insert the base into the bottom of the box and its shape holds. The base and walls contain a hard board that is surrounded by a substantial polyester/cottom fabric. The hard board walls and lid are set at ninety degree angles that create strength and allow safe stacking, as with the salad plate sized chest that I also purchased. The fabric handles make carrying the chest easy, and the 25 pound weight limit seems accurate. I have 9 Centura and 3 other heavier plates in this chest weighting a total of 17 pounds. The case is stable under this weight. During household transport, plates inside do not touch the walls of this chest. Carrying plates is secure and certain, unlike with the soft quilt bags that I have, that require a sloppy grip through the bag, against the plates themselves, to get them to the table. The handles are riveted and will last. The polymer view window is a convenience to see what's inside, but I hope the window material resists degradation over the years. This dinnerware chest is well thought out in design and is one of those products that exactly meets requirements. I recommend this storage chest.

These boxes are great! I was looking for someting a lot sturdier than the quilted storage containers (which are great if you are only worried about dust). I think these containers are going to last for a long time.
