We have an eclectic variety of pots and pans and it has somehow gotten us through. However, my wife was reading about teflon and other plastics that could potentially harm us by releasing small amounts of the chemicals over a long period of time. We have a new baby, so the concern is greater. At that point we decided to give up our non-stick pots and pans and start over by replacing them with stainless steel. My wife liked the Tramontina brand and we started with picking up a set of two-quart, three-quart and four-court covered sauce pans.
I'm impressed. These are real hefty pots, much heftier than the pots they replaced. There's a lot of steel in these things and it gives the ware a feeling of quality. I like the sturdy, easy-to-grip handles. Another thing I like are the flat bottoms which fit nicely on our ceramic-top stove. I think I can thus boil water faster than with the old pots, perhaps because of the good surface fit. They're nice cooking instruments and good looking, albeit somewhat expensive. Plus, they are made in Brazil, one of the few household things that don't come from China. These should give excellent service, plus they look very elegant in our kitchen.

These pans are HEAVY, even the 3 quart size could use a handle on the other end. I don't know what the 6.5 inch dimension was supposed to be (I thought it was the bottom) but this pan measures 7.5 inches across the bottom, the part that actually sits on the burner so it is larger than I expected. Neither of those comments detract from the quality of this item however it might matter to some people. I love the pan.The information that comes with it says "do not use it on HIGH temps". I thought that was odd but it gets hot really fast (my electric burner only works right if the pan is FLAT and makes good contact) so it seems the Tri-Ply is doing its job. It is much more efficient than my old stainless or my newer non-stick.
The handle is riveted on and everything is oven proof to 350 according to the enclosed literature. It was a good buy.
