The dimensions match the pan I bought it for, and it ACTUALLY FITS -unlike the previous three lids I bought that claimed to fit an 8" pan or be "universal" (any pan 6" to 12"). This is going to be a dimension-obsessed review because I've had a real struggle finding a lid that fit my favorite pan, and someone else out there might be going through the same frustration. My frying pan is 7-7/8" across and has a handle that angles up, was sold without a lid and I didn't expect finding one to be so hard. This lid would also fit an 8" or 8-1/4" pan but is just barely too small for 8-1/2" diameter.

The top looks exactly like the picture, and the bottom is the same in reverse -the lid is evenly thick. So, it has a flat 1/4" wide rim (no curled lip), and then dips 1/2" almost straight down, goes up at an angle for 1-1/2" across and has a flat 4-1/2" diameter circular center. The dip makes it very stable on the pan, as long as what you're cooking is 1/2" lower than the top of your pan. Basically, your pan becomes 1/2" shallower when you use this lid, except for the center circle -unlike most lids, which curve up from the edge and add height to the space for food. No big deal for a pot, kinda important for a 1-3/8" deep skillet. I almost gave it 4 stars for that reason. But that design flaw (for my purposes) is easy to predict from the picture so it's not a "gotcha" and the dip seems to make the lid more stable on top of the pan, so I gave it the full 5.

Otherwise, it's great. It's lightweight but not at all flimsy. (Unless your standard for sturdy is "Can I use it as a hammer?" You probably could, but it wouldn't be the same afterward.) It's gone through the dishwasher several times without problems, but I usually handwash it -even though the food glops on it because of the depth problem, it washes right off without scrubbing, including brown bits. The handle isn't very heat resistant but a flexible potholder or chopstick works fine, especially if you're peeking instead of lifting it completely off. The handle seems firmly attached apparently welded, not bolted or screwed on, so no little connector crevices to collect rust. It isn't leaky -no waves or curves in the rim, and heavy enough to keep moisture in. There is a tiny hole near the rim that seems to keep it from rattling from steam pressure, which was an unexpected bonus. I've been using it almost daily for several months, mostly to poach or steam, it keeps the moisture & smells in well and it looks exactly like it did when I bought it. If you need a lid this size, I'd strongly recommend this one.

I bought this lid to fit the 3.3 qt. braiser pot. It is a nuisance that the two do not come as one unit, but together they make the combo that is used the most in my kitchen. I have given this duo as a gift also, and will again when the occasion arises. Sitram is a class act.

I had one lid for two pots. This lid is made well and fits the two pots perfectly. Now I have two complete pots that I can use at the same time.

I don't have big hands and my fingers get trapped in the tiny handle. Once hot (heats up very quickly) it is inconvenient to grasp with a pot holder.

I received 2 of these lids from Amazon -the 1st was packed loose in the shipping box, the 2nd was in a sealed Sitram box, then packed in the shipping box. The first one received was scratched, and went back.

Pros:

-Not made in China, made in France.

-Fits the pan very well (I'm using it on one of pans its designed for, the "Sitram Profiserie Stainless Steel 2.0-Quart Open Saucier Pan". I'd say the overall quality of this lid matches this saucier pan.) A review for the slightly larger version of this recommended the "Catering" version of these lids which are available in the same sizes. I haven't tried them ...

Cons:

-Overpriced for what it is (should be < $10). I paid ~$25 for the pan (good value). $15 is just too much for what this lid is.

-The edge of the lip on both samples was extremely sharp -very able to cut your hand while washing. I filed down the edge of the lid I kept, now it's fine, but it shouldn't be that sharp from the factory.

-The adhesive used to apply the label on the underside of the lid is of some kind of Herculean glue which imparts strong cosmic forces between the label and the lid. It took several solvents and about 1/2 hour of fingernail scraping to get it off.
