This steamer has a stepped bottom that fits my Sitram sauciers and sauce pans within it's size range. There is no steam leakage at the edges where the steamer meets the pot. Sitram and other brand lids fit it snugly with no steam leakage. The tubular handles are spot welded on at multiple points. They stay cool in use.
I like the three dimpled feet molded into the bottom, so you can cleanly set the steamer on a counter or stove top while loading it with vegetables or after you remove it from the stove top. It cleans up easily with Barkeeper's Friend or in the dishwasher.
I can't see any way it would wear out or ever need replacement unless you figure out a way to break the handles off.

IF you have Sitram pans AND you have the lid that would fit this, it is an excellent addition to your set (I don't know how this would work with other pans, if there are differences with US-sized pans). With the gradations of the bottom and the solid sides, it fits four different sizes of pans, so you will always be able to have enough water underneath rather than have to worry about burning out your pans with a inserted mesh steamer.Best Deals for Sitram Profiserie Stainless Steel Steamer Insert
I was looking for something better than the usual collapsable steamers, which have a tendency to collapse at exactly the wrong time. I became aware of the steamers made by All-Clad, which looked good but are rather costly, but located this Sitram steamer while I was researching. I own several Sitram pots and pans, and I like them very much for their flat bottoms, sturdiness, and stay-cool handles. i wasn't disappointed by the steamer. It fits pots from 6 to 8 inches, has double handles for easy handling, pops right into the dishwasher for cleaning, and has even served as an impromptu colander for really small amounts of pasta.
