Amazon offers two Calphalon nonstick panini pans: this one is in their low end Simply Calphalon line and the other is in their Contemporary Calphalon series. The latter one is of far better quality. It is heavier, with larger capacity and deeper. You will find other uses for it other than making sandwiches. While the press in the Contemporary panini pan is stainless steel rather than nonstick, it is far heavier and more effective as a press than the lighter one that comes with the Simply Calphalon pan. Neither press has grilling ridges. Thanks to Amazon's goofy pricing, presently both pans are priced the same, even though they have far different manufacture's list prices, reflecting the differences in quality. As long as the Amazon price is the same, get the better quality Contemporary Calphalon panini pan.

I purchased this pan to make grilled sandwiches, which it does well. I was looking for a recipe online to make tender chicken breasts, because mine always turn out dry, and saw a comment about someone using their panini maker so I thought I would give it a try. I pounded two large chicken breasts to make them flatter and seasoned them on both sides. Then I sprayed the panini maker with olive oil and grilled them for about 15 minutes, flipping once. Super easy and they came out very tender and moist. This pan is light weight but that doesn't seem to make a difference in cooking; it does make clean up easier though. Can't beat it for the price.

We got this as a wedding present and I use it often. I make burgers and hot dogs and paninis/grilled sandwhiches all the time on this. I love it. Serves it's purpose well. No complaints. :)
