I'll never make a cookie style gingerbread house again!!! Decorating is the fun part and this takes away all the not so fun structural issues of the cookie style houses! Perfect for my little ones b/c they can't collapse this house up when putting candy on it. Just a heads up that it's a 9 C. capacity pan and don't throw away the label/wrapping it comes in b/c there's their recipe for the gingerbread cake for the pan on the inside of that label with cook times etc.

Using this pan made me feel magical. All I needed to do was pour in the batter, bake the cake, and pop out a perfect whimsical cake. I sprinkled mine with powdered sugar creating a fresh fallen snow look, but over achievers could go to town with piping.

The only problem with this cake is that everyone was too afraid to cut it because it's so cute!

I love that Nordic Ware makes pans so that the cakes and tea cakes/breads that you make sit so prettily and realistically on the serving plate. I previously owned the Williams Sonoma version of this pan with its goldish yellow exterior, baked in it and immediately returned it. The pan did not cook the cake evenly, so I had a well done interior and an overly baked exterior. I purchased this one in place because of it's silver exterior so to deflect the heat (for even baking), not absorb it. The result was an awesome, gingerbread house and the recipe that comes with it isn't that bad either. It needs more spices and half white sugar (for sweetness especially if you use dark molasses instead of the light).

I can't wait for the holidays. I plan to decorate my table, not with fake houses, but with the whole line of Nordic Ware gingerbread houses this, the two medium size gingerbread house duet pan(s) and the mini ones. Well, here's wishing all a Happy New Year! Enjoy :)

My mom and my young twins have made a gingerbread house on Christmas Eve every year since my kids were 3. I would buy the kit and my mom would struggle to get the four walls and the roof to stand up while my kids decorated it. It would fall down at least several times. Edible? Not in the least. Two years ago I bought this Nordic Ware pan. FANTASTIC. It makes a beautiful cake enought to feed at least a dozen people. Follow the directions and it releases easily and shows all the great details. I bake it the night before and my kids and my mom go to town with candy and icing. No frustration, just fun. It's our Christmas dinner centerpiece and my kids are so proud. Better yet, we eat it and it tastes delicious. I get tired of gingerbread with molassas. This cake actually tastes like ginger. Love it.
