This item is not like the original CorningWare. A company called World Kitchens bought the rights to the CorningWare name and uses it on stoneware products. The product is made in China, not Corning, NY. My real complaint is the limited utility of the dishes. A sheet that comes with the dishes warns not to use them under a broiler, under a microwave browning element, in a toaster oven, or any other direct heating source. Obviously, they can't be used to make creme brule or shrimp scampi.Best Deals for CorningWare French White 15-Ounce Oval Dish
This dish is OK, but has a couple of issues:Cannot emphasize this enough: THINK ABOUT HOW SMALL 15 OUNCES REALLY IS!
It's not much. Even a can of prepared soup is 16 ounces. This is an individual serving size dish. I know they give you the dimensions...but they should call it a "single serving" dish or something, just to be clearer. If in doubt, get out a ruler and look at how small 7 x 5 inches is.
The lid could be a lot better:
It would be nice if it was clear, or had a vent. As it is now, you have to position it carefully in the microwave so the dish does not "seal" while cooking (which will ruin it).
Also, the lid kind of "dips down" into the dish it should be the opposite "domed" so you can fit a bit more food in. The concave shape means that if you fill the dish to the top, some will squeeze out when you seal it. Thus making it...well, more like a 14-ounce dish! :-)
That being said, if all you want is a teeny dish to heat up a little bit of something for yourself, the quality is good and it will do the job.
Honest reviews on CorningWare French White 15-Ounce Oval Dish
I ordered this because it says: "Glass and plastic lids make cooking, serving, and storing easy and convenient". Glas and plastic lids sure shounds like there are more than one lid there. Lids plural. Silly me, it only came with one plastic lid. I contacted coustomer service and they were getting ready to send another one just like it. I finally got them to check to see how many lids and what kind of lids were included. I wish someone would proof read the ads. It's a nice little dish with ONE PLASTIC LID and NO GLASS LID.
