We bought this for straining seeds from blackberries and hopefully elderberries when they ripen. It worked fine for blackberries--no splattering of seeds.

I use this for raspberries and it takes out almost all of the seeds! Can have delicious raspberry jam without the seeds! Amazing!

My mother had an apple tree and she always canned sliced apples with the skins on. When we wanted applesauce with dinner, we'd open a jar of apples and pour them into the Foley Food Mill and strained them. I never knew that there was such a thing as white applesauce until after I opened a grocery store can of applesauce after I first got married. I didn't realize the reason that she canned them that way was because it took so long to strain them. I also have an apple tree and this year the tree was bent to the ground with apples. I used to can the apples the same way as my mother, but not any more. Someone told me last year (when we didn't get any apples) that there was another kind of strainer and this year I searched the internet and found the Victorio Strainer with lots of positive reviews. I bought one and boy, am I glad I did. I can strain a quart of apples in about 2 minutes. Wow! What a time saver. I now can pints of applesauce instead of quarts of apple slices. I used to can just a few quarts because it was such a pain to use the Foley Food mill cleaning it was almost as bad as straining the apples. The Victorio strainer cleans in a snap. My only complaint would be that it's a little hard to get it put together the first time. Make sure that you watch the video provided on their internet site. I also bought the berry screen because I have spent bunches of time pureeing raspberries through a sieve. I'll never have to do that again. Berry straining is as easy as straining the applesauce. An added comment is that I got a great discount on the strainer because I signed up for the Amazon card when I purchased the strainer.

I bought this product for my sister, since she was making raspberry jam. Her husband has dentures and hated the little seeds in the jam. Now he can put the homemade raspberry jam on his toast with no problems.
