Finally, after getting a nice set of pots and pans as a wedding gift for a nephew and his bride, I decided it's time to replace the Revereware I've been using since the sixties. This dutch oven was a great buy and a great improvement over the Revereware attractive and sturdy (not too heavy), with a glass lid that allows me to keep an eye on things and handles that don't heat up. And I can use it in the oven too I'm very happy with it.

My kids went off to college, so I needed a smaller soup-pot smaller meals for just mom and dad. Not sure of what to get, but I saw this at a great price and decided to try it, figuring I could afford to toss it out if it didn't work out. Well, wow!! I have cooked everything in it ever since, and just love it. It is so lightweight to use, simply pretty, easy to clean, and with stainless-steel I don't have to worry about scratching the surface. To be honest I would never use this as a true Dutch oven. That does not deter me from awarding this pot five solid stars because it is exceptionally well crafted and is perfect for making those Sunday pasta sauces among other things. On my glass top stove the bottom is slightly larger than my biggest burner, but this pot was designed to evenly distribute heat. I have never experienced the hot and cold spots that other brands of oversize pots seem to have, so there must be something to the encapsulated bottom that is a feature.
I mentioned that this is not a true Dutch oven. It can, however, be used in an oven for conventional slow cooking.Based on the relatively light walls I would not personally heat this above 400 degrees, but in the slow cooking temperature ranges that is not a problem. I have tried slow cooking a stew in my oven and am not convinced that the heat distribution is as good as when used on my stove top. Evidence of that is ingredients stuck to the sides and were hard to remove.
For that I use this for it's one of my best pieces of cookware. For one thing it perfectly responds to burner heat settings and changes in those settings in a graduated manner. For example, when I go from high to simmer, the liquid in the pan will go from boil to simmer reasonably quickly. Also, It's well made. The lid fits tightly and perfectly, unlike other inexpensive stainless cookware that I have purchased in the past where the construction is so flimsy that the only way to seat the lid is to slightly distort the pan. I am fairly sure the construction is 20 gauge 18/8 stainless steel because other medium weight cookware I own of the same construction is marked as such.
Another nice feature that makes this especially good for stove top cooking is the lid. The small vent grommet relieves pressure build-up and prevents spillover that pans with non-vented tops are prone to cause at higher heat settings. Also the glass top is a feature that I have grown to depend upon since it allows me to see at a glance the state of whatever I happen to be cooking or steaming in the pan.
Finally, I love this because it's a snap to keep clean. I use a dishwasher, which has not caused any discoloration or the finish. Do be aware that this is a tight fit in my dishwasher, which is relatively large, so you may have to hand wash it if your machine is smaller or apartment sized. However, when I have hand washed mine it is still easy to clean most of the time even burned ingredients will easily come off.
For the price (at the time of this review it was less than thirty dollars) this is a bargain. It's well constructed and is perfect as a stove top pot and can also be used in the oven as a slow cooker.
