I've owned this strainer for a couple of years and am now looking to replace it. It does have a very fine mesh, which is why I originally bought it; it is fine enough to rinse amaranth and poppy seeds (though a few poppy seeds got stuck in the mesh)and they are much smaller than quinoa. I bought it primarily to rinse grains and seeds but can't recommend it for that purpose. I also use it to strain liquids off other foods, and the rim and handle problems I will discuss also apply to this use.

There are two problems with this and the other sizes of Norpro Krona strainers. One is the weak handle attachment that can, and does, break when you try to tap out the food. Reviews of other size strainers mention this problem and it happened with mine, though my son re-welded the handle on with a much stronger weld. The second problem is the rim, which has enough space between it and the mesh to trap grains, even as large as rice, when you try to remove them after rinsing. It takes a lot of time to try to clean out the stuck grains and seeds and over time the space between the rim and mesh has become disgusting, despite my efforts to clean everything out of the space.

If Norpro were to redesign this strainer with a stronger handle attachment and a rim that wouldn't allow food to get stuck in it, this would be a great product for someone looking for a very fine mesh strainer. As it is, this strainer has more flaws than redeeming features.

Was trying to replace my tea strainer that looked similar and I was going by memory. this is NOT suitable for straining tea. This is a mesh similar to a sifter. small enough for powdered sugar, but too big for tea. Would have been nice if the mesh was labeled as to how fine or not fine the mesh was. No big deal though because of the price. I'm sure I will find a use for it.

This strainer is great for sifting small amounts of powdered sugar or cocoa.

However, it's too small to use with a tea mug. The little 'feet' that would hold it over the cup are too short and it falls in the mug.

It's well made and a good value. Do keep in mind it's only 2 1/2 " across.

I received the exact item described and it looks pretty good. The frame is made from sturdy plastic and the the mesh from metal (looks exactly like it's stainless steel) I'm happy with Norpro's product

This item arrived jammed in between a bunch of other items I had ordered at the same time. The mesh was totally bent up and looked close to detaching from the rim. The handle is attached to the rim at 2 points, one of which was already detached. I was showing my husband how bent the mesh was and how weak the handle seemed when the handle just snapped off completely. This was within 10 minutes of opening the box. The item has been immediately returned. I guess I will just have to spend the extra money. I wish the Cuisinart Set of 3 would become available already!
