I use this for my pellet stove and it works great!! i put some pellets in the burning tray, squeeze some gel on it, light it, turn on the auger on an walk away. 5-10 minutes later i have a nice burning fire.

I am only reviewing this according to my experience with our pellet stove. The gel is so thick that it just sits on top of the pellets and burns, failing to ignite the pellets. It does say to put "wood" (ie pellets) on top of the gel, but when I tried that I could not get it to light. When I tried to light it and then place pellets on top, the fire would completely go out. I would not buy this again. Diamond Fire Gel starter works so much better; it's a shame I can't find it anywhere!

This stuff sticks to your wood, is easy to light and unlike charcoal lighter does not appear to be very dangerous to light. I use it in my wood fireplace.
Honest reviews on Sterno Multi-Purpose Fire Starter
For some unknown reason, my kids have problems using a firesteel. After getting this, i put a small quarter size blob in the sink and had them try lighting it with a firesteel. They got it with one strike, confidence is high. I had been mixing the jell from a can with methanol so i could get it in a bottle. In the end, I think buying it in a bottle is more expensive, but its a lot less of a hassle. I use this for getting TLUD stoves lit. It may be cheating, but it works the first time every time.

I have been using Rutland Safe Lite Fire Starter Squares, 144-Square to light my pellet stove. THought that the sterno might work better, but it is not near as effective as the rutland squares. I slice the rutland's in half so that they are half as thin, so they light up quickly. 3-4 full squares (6-8 thin halves) light my pellet stove every time.
