Rather than purchase the 12-piece French Classic cookware set, I choose to buy the 10-piece set and customize it with a few standalone additions. This was one of them, since I enjoy baking and knew I would like to have a double boiler for melting chocolate without having to risk scortching such goods from a burner that was too hot. I had the opportunity to use it a few days ago when I melted chocolate to make a Sachertorte.

The saucepan is a joy to hold and use. Great heft and comfortable handle just like the rest of the french classic items. The boiler has steps so that it will fit in either the 2-quart or 3-quart saucepans. The one design element I disagree with is the step for the accompanying 3-quart saucepan--the 2nd step is actually a outward flared edge that tapers back in to side of the insert, so it's open-top diameter is about the same as that of the first stepping. What this results in is, if you're melting and pouring chocolate from the insert, it gets caught in this channel, requiring extra spatula handiwork. Had it been just a straight step like the first one, you wouldn't be getting your ingredients caught up in this channel and wouldn't have to do extra work just to make sure you're not wasting that good chocolate you just took the time to melt and temper.

I'm rather baffled how this passed the design review, but I suspect it's an adapted multiclad design with the french classic handle attached and they must not really be selling many units to get many complaints. Too bad really because it would be a 5-star item otherwise.

made well, heavy but not too heavy, handle stays cool good performance, made in France. Like this pan would buy other ones from this line.

Bought this as a gift. I was happy to see that they are as substantial as my All-Clad set though much less expensive. They are stamped "Made in France" and appear to be professional grade pots.

I love everything about this pot especially the price. I had the All Chad and this pot set is right up there with their line except the price half the price.

The only thing I don't like is the handle being so long but I just use both hands, and that takes care of that issue. I can't wait to get the rest of my set.

Buyer beware: My son bought this for me to use when I make my flans. Unfortunately, he didn't realize that the insert is rounded and not flat. The picture doesn't indicate that. It is a beautiful pot if you don't need a flat bottom on what you're making. Description should have been clearer. Due to this, I had to return it.
